Good News: Cannabis could help decreasing risk of death from some influenza strains.
Bad News: Smoking it will not work and may even make things worse.
According to Cannabis Science Inc., which specializes in research and development of cannabis for medicinal purposes, the world may have at their disposal a mean of combating the deadly effects of some influenza strains (including H5N1 avian flu and H1N1 swine flu).

Sept. 11, 2009 - Just found this morning in the Examiner an article titled Calming H1N1 fears that was mentioning Astragalus (Astragalus membranaceus) among supplements to fight the H1N1 flu.
Read more »Seems that we have never been so close to an influenza pandemic since the Hong Kong Flu pandemic in 1968, as the World Health Organization raised the pandemic alert level to phase 5, just one level below phase 6 (declared pandemic).
WHO and other Health Authorities around the world were expecting that the next pandemic would come from a mutant strain of H5N1 (or other avian strains like H7N1 or H9N2)and laboratories were working on developing a vaccine against these candidates.
