TEHRAN (Reuters) - Iran's supreme leader accused the United States Tuesday of trying to use the Internet as a tool to confront the Islamic Republic, declaring that such a policy only showed Washington's frustration.
Last week, U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton challenged Beijing and other governments to end Internet censorship, placing China in the company of Iran, Saudi Arabia and others as leading suppressors of on-line freedom.
The Internet has become a battleground during domestic turmoil in Iran after June's disputed election, with the authorities blocking access to some opposition websites and pro-reform Iranians using it to spread word of new protests.

January 12, 2010 - A remote-controlled bomb attached to a motorcycle killed an Iranian physics professor outside his home in northern Tehran on Tuesday, state media reported, blaming the United States and Israel for the attack.
There was no immediate claim of responsibility. One state broadcaster, IRIB, quoted a Foreign Ministry spokesman as saying that “in the initial investigation, signs of the triangle of wickedness by the Zionist regime, America and their hired agents are visible in the terrorist act” against the scientist, Massoud Ali Mohammadi.
There was some dispute about his field of scientific specialization.

December 29, 2009 - Iranian authorities have arrested the sister of 2003 Peace Nobel laureate Shirin Ebadi who accuses the government of trying to disrupt her activity as an advocate of democracy and Human Rights.
Nushin Ebadí was arrested yesterday during a deadly crackdown on anti-government protestswhat, already called the Iran’s bloody Sunday.
"They've arrested her to stop my work," said the well-known activist, 62, in a telephone call from London. "She was not doing anything wrong. She is not involved in the struggle for Human Rights and has never participated in any protest," she added.

June 17, 2009 - The Iranian government is taking a new step today in its strategy of harassment against the press and bloggers, as the Army of the Guardians of the Islamic Revolution requires all Internet sites and blogs to remove from their pages any content that may "create tensions" and threaten of "legal actions" whoever attempts to circumvent the order.

As expected, Barack Obama and Benjamin Netanyahu, who met yesterday at the White House, proved to have opposite visions on two crucial issues: the U.S. president refused to set a precise deadline for Iran to renounce nuclear weapons and emphasized the need for a Palestinian state, and the Israeli prime minister stongly disagreed on both points. The four hours reunion ended with no more success than the rhetoric of mutual commitment to pursue peace negotiations with the Palestinians.
As the two leaders reminded it, United States and Israel share a long tradition of special relationship in which Washington takes the security of the Jewish state as a responsibility.
Both states have had and still have common enemies and common goals in the most turbulent region of the planet. Their alliance is not in danger because it can not be. But Obama and Netanyahu were unable yesterday to to reach an agreement in order to address the current problems.

The U.S. president, Barack Obama, invites the leaders of Israel, Palestinian territories and Egypt for a new round of negotiations on the peace process between Arabs and Israelis.
Although no specific date has been fixed for these negotiations, the White House spokesman, Robert Gibbs, announced yesterday that the reunion will be held "in coming weeks."
Washington invited the new Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Palestinian President Mahmud Abbas and Egypt President, Hosni Mubarak. Egypt was the first Arab country to officially recognized the Jewish state in the Camp David agreements of 1978.
